Primary & Lower School Interim Learning Specialist

Description:

The Interim Learning Specialist provides individual and small group support to students with emerging and documented learning differences and reports to the Director of Learning Services. They collaborate with colleagues within the Learning Services Department and the Primary School and Lower School divisions, grades K-6. The Learning Specialist will coach or lead other afternoon student activities for two terms. This position will provide consecutive coverage for two family leaves over the course of the school year. The initial coverage will run from the start of the school year through January 26. Following this, the position will transition to support a second leave from late January through the remainder of the school year. This is a 10-month, in-person position.

During the first half of the year, the primary focus will be providing generalized learning services support; specialization in reading or mathematics is preferred. Coverage for the second leave will include the teaching of one section of 5th-grade math in addition to learning services support. This is a temporary, school year position and is not benefit eligible. The position may be eligible for paid sick time in accordance with Massachusetts law.

Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have a minimum of three years of teaching experience and hold a master's degree in education with a focus on literacy, reading, or mathematics instruction.

Responsibilities include:

Supporting the mission, philosophy, and core values of the School
Demonstrating academic excellence through a knowledge of 贝博体育app's core curriculum
Partnering with the Director of Learning Services and teachers to identify emerging student support needs and implement recommendations from individual neuropsychological evaluations
Collaborating on the writing of and adhering to individualized learning profiles and managing appropriate school-based accommodations
Delivering strategy-based individual reading and academic support to students
Providing information to teachers to understand students' learning profiles; supporting teachers with observational data about students' learning
Attending grade-level team meetings and all required meetings of the faculty and the Learning Services Department
For the second leave coverage, teaching one section of 5th grade Math and working with the Math Department Chair to support the needs of the students, outreach to families and other classroom teacher expectations during the time as lead teacher in the classroom
