Jeremy Navarro '14: Harnessing the Power of the Written Word

"I'm ready to take a deep dive into the world of publishing— 贝博体彩app has prepared me well for it."

The author of this series of young alumni profiles is Jeremy Navarro, a member of 贝博体彩app's Class of 2014. Jeremy approached 贝博体彩app Magazine this past summer with the idea of telling the stories of some of his fellow alumni. "I was curious to learn more about the different paths we have all taken in the past few years, and to find out how our experiences at 贝博体彩app have informed our choices as adults," he says.

Jeremy entered 贝博体彩app in eighth grade, and while he found the initial transition to be challenging after being homeschooled back in Southern California, he quickly found success in his new setting, winning both the A. Brooks Harlow, Jr. Flag Award and the Whitehouse Award for Earnest Effort in Boys' 体育活动 in 2014.

After 贝博体彩app, Jeremy attended Hotchkiss, and in the fall of 2017 he matriculated at Middlebury College, where he has expanded and deepened his interests. These include a love of music and involvement in the Dissipated Eight, one of Middlebury's a cappella groups; and his study of Arabic and a related volunteer project that is exploring ways to help ease the transitions of the Arabic-speaking refugee community in Vermont.

The primary interest that has emerged for Jeremy, though, is writing and publishing. His has written for two Middlebury publications, Mindfray and Arabic Magazine, and he is in the process of declaring a major in comparative literature. In recent months—and in part as a result of his internship at 贝博体彩app Magazine— Jeremy has become especially interested in publishing, entrepreneurship, and the ways he might link these two areas of focus.

In addition to a job with the literary magazine The New England Review this year, Jeremy is currently interning with journalist Andrea Koppel, daughter of broadcast journalist Ted Koppel, on her podcast Time4Coffee, which includes interviews with industry leaders and career advice for undergraduates. A highlight of this fall's work has been editing, designing, and producing a companion book featuring transcripts of the interviews.
